A beautiful, warm sunny day greeted the Laurel Highlands Sprint Car Series IMCA Racesaver’s as they made their 3rd visit to the Hesston Speedway on Saturday August 4th, the track preparation was great with a nice racing surface and 21 sprint cars were on hand to do battle. As the track prep was ending and the drivers meeting was called up the sky looked ominous with rain approaching. As it as done many times this year the rain came down hard for about 10 mins then stopped briefly then a second round of rain made conditions too wet to race and the program was cancelled. Just to add insult to injury the sky cleared, the sun came out along with a rainbow but no racing. One of the new faces on hand to compete for the first time with the LHSS was ‘rookie’ Lawrence Jewell of Thompsontown who was piloting the ex-Josh Dressler 00, Garrett Bard was making his first Hesston visit with Laurel Highlands and Jim “Cowboy” Kennedy was back after making repairs to his mount after a tangle with the front stretch wall at Clinton County a couple weeks back. A thank you to all the drivers who made the trek to Hesston and this is a list of those cars in attendance: 46 Mike Alleman, 00 Lawrence Jewell, 72 Dave Guss, Jr., 67 Ken Duke, Jr., 29B Rob Bartchy, 33 Scott Lutz, 99 Ray Sheetz, 22 Mike Murphy, Jr., 12 Roger Irvine, 12J Jonathon Jones, R6 Reed Thompson, 86 Ron Aurand, 880 Drew Ritchey, 23 Nathan Gramley, 21 Rob Felix, 52 Jeff Weaver, 7 Jim Kennedy, 25K Matt Kline, 26 Ryan Lynn, 17K Stevie Kenawell, 95 Garrett Bard.
